Welcome!
On this site, you’ll find the stories of a few historical families that are important to me. For now, there is just one family: the Colton-Miller family. Over time, I hope to add more, perhaps many more. For now, the common theme behind all these families is that they are my ancestors.
If these families are interesting to you too, chances are we’re cousins. Good to meet you, cousin! I’d love to get in touch. For now, feel free to contact me on Facebook. Even if you aren’t interested in genealogy, one of my goals is to help the descendants of these families stay in touch and perhaps even to build a community of cousins. I’m still exploring the best way to do that. If that sounds intriguing to you, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
What’s next?
As of May, 2024, I’m still building out a full set of content for the Colton-Miller family. Here are some pages I have planned:
- “Town Life” describing the Coltons’ life after the founding of Colton, SD.
- “Colton Children” containing short bios for each of the Colton children.
- (Perhaps) An extended “News Nugget” page surveying the various places John’s political aspirations between ~1885 and 1895 show up in the Argus-Leader.
Let me know if you’re interested in learning about new content as it is posted. Unless interest is high, I might just use email to let folks know.
I haven’t decided which family to work on after the Colton-Miller family. When I do, I’ll find a way to only notify folks about the families they are interested in.
How to help
If you find a typo, let me know. I’m happy to share more contact information once we’re connected on Facebook.
If you’re interested in helping, I’d love to talk to you! I’m sure we could find something that matches your interests.
If you’re a student (or know of a student) who is preparing (or has prepared) content about one of these families for class, let me know. I’d love to find a way to showcase contributions like that.
If / when the project gets bigger, I’ll look into ways to streamline the process of contributing.
